And The Winner Of The Hook, Line, and Sinker Contest Is…….

First Place……………..Kathy Bremmer (Katt)…Critique by CW and a M & M tote

He’s in the business of helping people disappear and she’s making a lifework out of finding them. He plans to shut her down using trickery and seduction but she twists him up like a pretzel and he can’t derail her from her mission. Their battle of wills is put on hold when another player rudely steps between them and starts shooting.

Second Place……………Terri Hall……M & M tote

In a deadly race to crush a threat to national security, an ambitious journalist and straight-arrow FBI agent reluctantly team up to bring down the terrorist cell her investigative reporting has uncovered. When her relentless digging unearths chilling links to the bureau itself, she’s forced to flee—but he can’t let her. Now they’re on the run, both guarding secrets along with their hearts and, despite the passion that flares between them, unable to trust each other…as the bad guys close in.

Third Place………………Cindy Carroll…..M & M tote

After almost being murdered by a serial killer, a skeptic in all things other worldly starts to see ghosts. An investigative reporter, she teams up with the villain’s latest victim to track him down, while trying to convince everyone she’s not insane for talking to people only she can see. She must catch this man before he can kill his current captive, her sister.

Wow! This was a fun ride. First off, I need the three winners to email me with a snail mail address so we can get our great tote bags sent out.

Katt, if you’ll send me a file with your first chapter, I will get that to Christine to critique.

But wait! There’s more good news. Although Katt is the only contestant who will receive a critique from Christine, she wants to see a first chapter from all three winners.

Yeah!! She was impressed with the blurbs and had to really work at picking the three best.

We, at M & M want to thank everyone who was brave enough to put their stuff out here for all to see and for hanging in there with us to the very end. We’ve decided this was so much fun, we’re going to make it an annual event (with another name. LOL) Stay tuned for the contest to NAME the contest!!

In the meantime, keep coming back to check the blog daily. We’ve planned some fun things along with our regular writing/craft related topics and as we’ve found out, it’s way more fun when everyone chimes in. We have a great lineup of guest bloggers for June. On Friday the 4th, we have the very talented, Karin Harlow, who’s got a new RS series coming out soon and who’ll talk about what’s happening in the industry. She doesn’t hold anything back, so get your questions ready. On June 11th, the successful and talented Cleo Coyle who writes the Coffee House Mysteries will be stopping by and she’s bringing a yummy recipe with her. And here’s a date you will definitely want to mark on your calendar. On June 18th, I will be interviewing the amazing Christine Witthohn of Book Cents Literary Agency who also shoots from the hip and will hold nothing back. In the past six months, she’s gotten book deals for five debut authors. Drop by and ask her what it takes to add you to the list.

Friday, the 25th will be a surprise, which in Liz talk means I don’t have anyone yet!! Count on it being someone great, though.

Again, thanks for making this so much fun for all of us. Without your comments, this would have been just another contest. And if you see any of us in Orlando (all four of us will be there), come up and say hello. Actually, if you tell one of us that you love M & M and give us your business card, your name will be entered in a drawing on Saturday afternoon, July 31 for an M & M tote bag.

What a great contest this was! Congratulations to everyone who stepped up to the plate AND to our finalists. We expect to see those great totes of our marching around Orlando! They will be in the mail as soon as Liz receives your addresses.

Thanks again to everyone. And, Christine, THANK YOU for jumping in during your incredibly busy schedule.

Yeah! Huge congrats to the winners. You guys are amazing. And Christine doesn't ask for anything unless she is really interested, so double congrats to you all!

I loved seeing all the lines and blurbs. What amazing wit and imaginations!

Oh, good grief. I can't believe I forgot this in my excitement:

Congrats, Katt. And Cindy

Good job. Great stories!

This was fun, and though I didn't win, I had a blast reading everyone's lines and blurbs. And I learned a lot, which is always good. I still want to read the book that started out, "When you're on the run from the law, and you are the law, better have your sunscreen ready."

Yes, congrats to the winners--I covet the tote bag, you know--and thanks to the blogowners for running the tournament and to Christine for donating a tiara. Now, back to my regularly scheduled revision underway, with time-outs for your fun and helpful posts. That's a yeehaw!

OMG! HOLY COW!
I'm having trouble sitting still and typing this! THANK YOU! Oh damn, I need more than capitals and exclamation points to share my excitement with you. There's dancing going on here - just ask my cats and dog!

okay, calm,,, calm,,, deep breathing...

There, let me try this now. I am honored, thrilled, tickled to death, and yup, still giggling.

Thank you, Christine, M & M and Liz - it was your example that changed up my blurb thinking.

Must go make a phone call and share my excitement!

Isn't this great?? Liz, you are the one who wins the prize this month for organizing and managing the contest. I'd send you one of our totes, but methinks you might already have one.

Dear readers, don't go away. We have lots more in store. We love having you play with us, share with us, and join us in this madcap adventure of writing.

What else would YOU like to see and read? We are totally open to suggestions, ideas, and quirky offerings. Airplane tickets to far off destinations might be out of the picture.

I know this still relates to the contest, rather than blogs of the future, but I'd love to see the actual first line, last line match-ups.
I'm still curious about "Camels," though I'd guess that protagonist might have been thanking the desert gods for drying his eyes.
But my guesses have proved wrong so far! Thought Cindy, not Katt, was responsible for the guy whose business it was to make people disappear. Thought Katt's might be the prom queen murder at the class reunion.
Outside of the 3 or 4 obvious ones (counting my own), I'm still mystified!

Great job with the contest guys. It was so much fun reading the entries. Congratulations to the winners!

I agree that it would be fun to see the first and last sentence match up

Congratulations to the winners and to everyone who made the finals. Fun contest, ladies.

We loved having all of you join us! Stay tuned. There will be more to come. Tell your writing buddies. We love the company.

Lindsay said...

Cassy,
If I didn't know you I'd almost think that was a scary thought, that there's more to come

Just hopping in here to thank everyone again who participated in this contest.

Although I wont list the first and last lines for all the contestants, I will mention that when I announced the ten finalists, I did include both lines. Since the contest is over, it wouldn't be fair to any contestant without their permission.

Bet you guys can figure it out, though.

Lindsay said...

Liz,
You're the boss. But, if it comes to it, you have my permission to list my first and last lines.

Liz Lipperman said...

Okay, how about this? Anyone who participated in this contest and wants to post both their first and last lines for discussion, have at it.

Lindsay said...

Here are my first and last lines. However, since the end of the contest I did make a change to the last sentence, which I'm not showing.
FIRST SENTENCE-
Frustrated, Ezra shot the mysterious message one last piercing stare before tossing the note on his desk beside its mate.
LAST SENTENCE-
With a forced smile he waved good-bye as his precious daughter and daughter by proxy left for the airport, all the while concerned if the notes had any bearing on their safety.

Cindy said...

Wow. Congrats to Katt and Terri. I want to read those books. I'm still stunned that I'm third. Great contest. Thanks M & M. And especially Christine. Must polish chapter.

My first line:

If she’d been a bad girl when she had the chance, she probably wouldn’t be dying right now.

Last line:

Before her eyes, Tracey went from solid to see through, into a puff of white smoke, then she was gone.

Claudia Lefeve said...

Congrats to the top three!! I can't even say I am dissapointed that I didn't make the final cut...I am just honored to have made it to 10!

Katt said...

I know it's a day later but now that it's not just about my own excitement...

Did I remember to thank everyone? Lord, I hope so.

This was a really fun, eye-opening contest for me and I hope for everyone else.

It was amazing to feel like a part of this group and to have such support and camaraderie.

I know what it took for me to put my stuff out there so big congrats to everyone else who made the leap.

And I think it is soooo cool that Christine is going to read all three of us!

cheers!
