Barbie Jo's Bunkhouse: Name That Muse!!!

Happy Friday everyone! I'm thrilled today because this is the first time in a looong time that I haven't procrastinated with my blog post! YAY ME!

So anyway, let's get down to business. The business of naming my muse, that is. That's right, after all these years of writing (14 to be exact) my muse has never had a name. Sure, I've probably called her a few not-so-nice names in the fit of a plot meltdown, or synopsis struggle...but my muse and I have never been on a first name basis. In answering an email from fellow Book Cents Author Donna Cummings, she calls her muse Endora (remember her from Bewitched? Yeah, how freaking cool is that???). They were going out for ice cream. And I got to thinking, maybe my muse would cooperate more often if I called her by name. Only problems is, I have no idea what to call her. Out of all of the creative character names I can think of for my stories, I just can't come up with one for my muse. Maybe because I'm too close to her? I don't know. So this is where I need your help.

Let me tell you a little bit about my muse: She's definitely a steak and potatoes kinda girl. Whiskey is her drink of choice, but she's been known to imbibe in a martini or two (or three). Dessert? It's all about the cheesecake (turtle cheescake is her fav). She's quite sassy, and has a bit of a dark side - although she's not evil at all. She loves her bling, but she's no foo-foo princess. She's a little bit country but has a rock and roll heart. And speaking of her heart?? Underneath that snarky exterior beats the heart of a hopeless romantic. She loves that romantic spark, she's flirty and can be all out sexy when she wants to be. Loyal to a fault, she will put herself out there for what she believes in. When push comes to shove, the writing truly is, all about her.

So there you have it. Help me give the girl a name. Polls will be open all weekend. The winner will be announced on next Friday's post as I interview my newly named muse. AND I will put your name (or pseudonym, initials, whatever) on my website as helping me to name my muse!

And Thanks to Donna for giving me this great idea. You can follow her on twitter @BookEmDonna (How's that for a plug?!)

Keep those names coming troops!

LOL what fun! Your muse sounds a lot like Barbie...okay at least a little. And all I can think of is you and me and the road...Thelma and Louise. So maybe Weezie.

Then again if she's Barbie Jo's alter ego, maybe Babs.

Hmmm, then again she sounds like a wild child so maybe Lolita.

Okay, so I need more coffee :-)

Barbie Jo, thanks for the shoutout! (Endora is thrilled to be part of the action too. LOL)

Your muse sounds like someone I wanna hang with--very cool and sassy. Mmm. I'm gonna have to see what I can come up with to fit her personality. I'll definitely be back after Endora has had her coffee. :)

I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with!

Fun post Barbie. I'm trying to think of names. Are there any TV or book characters that are similiar to your muse? Like Donna's Endora.

Kari - oh yeah, my muse is always up for road trips. But Weezie?? eh, sorry..no. Now Lolita has potential! ;-)

Donna - you are sooo welcome! You and Endora have made my Friday. This is going to be fun. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Anita - The only TV/move personality that comes to mind for my muse is Angelina Jolie. But we can't use Angelina because that's "code name" with my hubby. (His is Rocco) LOL. so keep thinking!!!

Lola. I don't know why but I think it's the name of a sassy gal who takes no prisoners :)

OMG, I was just coming back here to suggest the name Lola, but Sarah beat me to it! LOL

*high fives* Great minds. :)

As I was reading your description of your muse the name Cassiopia, not you Cassy, popped into my head.

Barbie Jo Mahoney said...

Sarah - good one! and great minds indeed, Donna, as I was thinking on Kari's suggesting of Lolita and actually thinking LOLA!!! too funny!

Lindsey - oooh Cassiopia, wasn't she a goddess or something?? hee hee...My muse could be goddess material!!!

Lindsay said...

This is courtesy of Wikipedia-Her name in Greek is Κασσιόπη, which means "she whose words excel".
And yes she was a goddess, but then aren't most women (hehehe) and she has a constellation named for her.

How about Kenna? You know, Barbie and Kenna?

M

Barbie Jo Mahoney said...

Oh yeah, I forgot about the constellation! du'oh!

M - Barbie and Kenna...LOL, now that's kinda cute!

And if your muse ever fails you just think you you could blame.

Anita Clenney said...

Actually I like Lola. I think that's a great name for your muse.

Lola- that sounds like she should be a fan dancer from the 30's or a stripper

ha ha ha...I keep thinking of that Barry Manilow song (oh boy, I'm really dating myself here aren't I?), Copacabanna!

My Muse is Lo-la, she's not a show girl. Do not put feathers in her hair or she'll take you out somewhere, and you'll be goooone..

Yeah, she'll get me for that one next week, I'm sure!

I'll put your muse lo-la the flower girl up against my Alison any day and my girl will come out in top

OMG....I was watching CMT this morning and the girl in Toby Keith's Whiskey Girl video makes me think of what my muse would look like if she actually had a body! (LOL)

And suddenly the name Miranda pops into my head. Is that a sign? Hmm...it's between Miranda and Lola, I guess - unless somebody else chimes in this weekend.

Go with the hotty in the Whiskey Girl video, cold shower and cigarette after seeing her.
Miranda's not good. She's married to Blake.
Now can I get back to editing the rough of Chapter 3.

Barbie Jo Mahoney said...

By all means, go back to editing. I need to be adding polish to my own stuff and I'm having way too much fun thinking on this.

yeah..girl in video isn't a Miranda, that's for sure! She could possibly be a Lola (Lolita)...

Lindsay said...

Lola. Not Lolita. And I still haven't finished the edits to 3
