Kari's Kave: Blog Tour Topics Contest (I need help!)

Okay, so I need help, folks!

Haha I know what you're thinking...you all knew that already, right?

Very funny!

But seriously, Corpse in the Crystal Ball comes out in 4 weeks on June 5th. I'm gearing up for a blog tour. This time I am doing very few interviews and a whole lot of guest posts. I have lots of ideas for blog posts for the tour which takes place the last week of May, the whole month of June, and the first week of July.

But I am also going to blog on the Penguin blog called The Author's Desk. I will be doing 3 guest posts during the launch week of my book.

So basically, I need 3 blog topic ideas for that week.

I should be getting my author copies any day now, so here's what I'll do in return for your help :-)

I will give away 3 signed copies of Corpse in the Crystal Ball to the people whose blog topics I choose. Just think...you'll get a copy before the book even hits the stores! That's worth it, right? So please help...my brain is fried and I can't think of anything else. The ideas can be anything you think readers would want to read about. Ideas about the book, ideas about my life, even creative ideas from the pov of my characters, etc.

Please leave your ideas in the comment section and include your email so I can let you know if you won. If you don't want to leave your email there, then please email it to me privately at karileetownsend@gmail.com

You can leave as many ideas as you want and you have all week to think about it and keep coming back to leave more. I will announce the three winners in one week on May 16th's Kari's Kave blog post.

Thank you all so much in advance!

Talk about character names and why they are very important in a series.

Hmmm...

OK, a craft-oriented blog idea could be: Offer to critique a winner's first 10 pages, then do a blog post about what you as a reader, and as a published author, would be looking for in those pages.

A reader-oriented blog post could be: "Laying a Trail of Clues: Red Herrings, False Leads, and Distraction" where you give away a few secrets for fans.

Good luck with your release--and tour. Kari!!

Wow! There are a couple of great ideas here that I plan to steal since BEEF STOLEN-OFF comes out the following month.

What about if you blog about how Granny Gert came about. We'd all love to hear about your own gramma.

If I remember correctly, you're already talking about how to read a crystal ball when you guest on my blog, so that out.
Your writers journey-from nothing to bestseller.

You could use the topics of:

"How to write a good Scene'

How to make your characters miserable

Living in your head while keeping your feet on the ground

Marketing your books when they are set in areas where there are no bookstores.

I will email you in a minute, Melissa! Thanks so much :-) I'd love to include your blog, and I'll even have my publicist send you a copy of the book for review plus she sends one to use as a giveaway as well.

Sara....LOL you crack me up!

Kari Lee Townsend said...

Ohh, good one, Pam! Thanks for stopping by :-)

Hi Jenny! Waving from central NY :-) Great ideas.

Kari Lee Townsend said...

Hee hee, I LOVE Granny Gert, Liz :-)

Kari Lee Townsend said...

Another great idea, Lindsay! And yes I saved the how-to post for your blog :-)

Kari Lee Townsend said...

Nice! Loving those ideas, Saundra!

How does a mystery writer see the world or everyday life differently than other people?

How do you keep the excitement alive in a sequel/series?

I'd also love to be a host on your book tour if you have openings!

I've already received a review copy from Berkley, so no need to enter me in the drawing. :)

Awesome ideas, Diana! And I love to include you on the tour. I'll email you privately.

You could blog about how all the characters came about. What parts are inspired, like Granny Gert, and what parts are all imagination.

Another fun thing to do, although it's added work and who needs that during a blog tour, but it's fun to interview your characters, show something about them that isn't in the book.

Kari Lee Townsend said...

Thanks Anita! Great ideas :-)

Kari,
Take me out of the running for a copy of Corpse in the Crystal Ball.
Oh, and you'd better be going to Crime Bake this year so you can sign my copy

Kari Lee Townsend said...

Not sure about Crime Bake yet, Lindsay, but I'll find a way to sign your copy of Corpse :-)

Kathleen Kaska said...

You've received some great ideas. I like reading about the craft of writing, plotting mysteries, what works best.

Sara J. Henry said...

Kari - I'm gonna go to CrimeBake - we could room together!

Hi Kari-- how about a post on balancing work and family life, carving out time for deadlines when you've got people at home depending on you for other things.

And another, on what writers influenced you, what books mean the most to you.

And if you'd like to appear on my blog with a guest post or answering interview questions, let me know. We'll support the launch!

(1) Your development as a writer & your tips for others. Who/what inspired you to become a writer? How young were you when you made your early efforts? How many pages a day do you write & what do you wish you had started doing earlier (in terms of time, schedule, amount written).

(2) If any of your books were inspired by real cases, discuss some of the differences and how the fictional version develops & evolves (while trying if possible to avoid too many give-aways/spoilers).

(3) Discuss your pets and how they "help" you write, show a photo of your desk, your window view or garden, that kind of thing. Share what you hope to have written by the time you are 95.

Awesome ideas Kathleen, Dale and Brenda! And Sara...with my crew, it will take a miracle for me to sneak away again. If by some chance things change, then you'd be the first to know :-)

Sounds like you're spinning in lots of directions - makes me tired reading all that you have planned. The one thing I always like to hear is where an author gets an idea for a book and what prompted the story. If you want me to post an interview for you on my blog I'd be glad to. Just send me one and the date you'd like me to schedule it for.

Kari, write about the cat, Morty, in your story because you'll attract all the cat lovers.

Hope I didn't mess up the cat's name. I couldn't find my copy of your book to look it up. I have the new book on pre-order. Can't wait.

I'm late to the party, but one thing that always interests me is what other creative activities writers are involved in. (In fact, I'm blogging about that tomorrow.) Anyway, I would like to say that I'm looking forward to reading the book! and I would love to host you on my new blog sometime - if you're all booked up for this tour, maybe later. Congrats on the impending launch!

Personally, I'd love to know about all the wonderful facts and tidbits you may have learned during the research for your series, especially the paranormal. I always think that the research that goes into writing must be such an education and a least a bit of it mush be fun or interesting=)
I can't wait for the next book!
